Whether you’re looking to treat yourself to a handmade gift at any time of year, or you’re out to cross some names off your holiday shopping list, there are plenty of locally-owned shops to visit in Denver. Many of these independent shops offer handcrafted items from local makers, so you can easily support local businesses and artists this holiday season. Here are some brick-and-mortar shops in the Mile High that are certainly worth a visit:

 

Soul Haus

Location: 1225 E 17th Ave., Denver, CO

Hours: Mon – Sat: 10AM – 7PM | Sun: 11AM – 5PM

This Denver shop is full of unique clothing and gifts made by local and regional artists. You’ll find a vast array of independently-designed clothing for men and women. In addition to supporting smaller-scale makers, Soul Haus also gives over 6% of sales back to the local community. They’re a Certified Green Business as well, so you’ll be supporting a shop committed to recycling, reusing, and upcycling.

 

The Artisan Center

Location: 2757 E 3rd Ave., Denver, CO

Hours: Every day: 10AM – 5:30PM

Holiday extended hours: Dec 1-23: 10AM – 6PM | Dec 24: 10AM – 3PM

If you’re shopping in Cherry Creek North, The Artisan Center should be on your list of shops to explore. They’ve been carrying the work of makers from Denver and the U.S since 1977. They carry a curated selection of artisan-made goods like cards, jewelry, home decor, and much more. They’re truly a community shop, with a rotating selection of locally made gifts. A bonus: They offer free gift packaging in a brown box with a bow.

 

Pandora on the Hill

Location: 1227 E 17th Ave., Denver, CO

Hours: Mon – Sat: 10AM – 7PM | Sunday: 11AM – 5PM

This Uptown shop is a great spot to shop local any time of year, and especially during the holidays. It’s a gift shop and jewelry boutique full of unique finds from local artists. You’ll find things like independently-designed clothing, bath products, notebooks, and stationery. They’re another Certified Green Retailer in Denver, and a percentage of each sale goes directly to the local community.

 

I Heart Denver

Locations: 500 16th St. #264, Denver, CO | 8501 W Bowles Ave. #2035, Littleton, CO

Denver Hours: Mon – Sat: 10AM – 8PM | Sun: 11AM – 6PM

Littleton location: : Mon – Sat: 10AM – 9PM | Sun: 11AM – 6PM

At I Heart Denver, you’ll only find goods from Denver and Colorado makers, and they carry work from over 200 of them! Their consignment model is generous to the makers, giving them 70% of sales, meaning you’re truly supporting an artist’s business with each purchase. Products range from t-shirts and bags to cards and art prints.

 

XO Gift Co.

Location: 3867 Tennyson St., Denver, CO

Hours: Mon – Sat: 10AM – 6PM | Sun: 10AM – 5PM

You can tell from the colorful house exterior of this shop on Tennyson Street that the interior will be equally bright and creative. XO Gift Co. is short for the eXtraOrdinary Gift Company, a shop started about 5 years ago by a husband and wife team who are passionate about supporting local makers. You’ll find goods made in the U.S., with plenty made by Colorado vendors. From creative apparel and baby gifts to quirky cards, this shop has a great selection of unique gifts.

 

As we dive into the holiday shopping season, Denver offers many ways to shop local. When you pay a visit to these and other local shops, you can support Denver artists and small business, contribute to Denver’s economy, and be a part of this vibrant community. Whether you need a simple holiday card or a one-of-a-kind art piece, there are plenty of independent shops to explore to find that unique something for everyone on your list.
